Apple iPad – 10 Reasons Why you should NOT Buy Apple iPad
Now when Apple iPad is official, there’s plenty of buzz around the specs and murmur about who should buy it and who should not. There could be plenty of reasons to buy iPad. But before you go out buying one, have a look at why you should not buy Apple iPad, the most anticipated and much hyped (and much typed <about>) device. Here goes the list:
1. The Name
What’s with the name iPad. It could have been anything but a pad. Oh did you mean Maxi Pad? So, you’ve built just another “Pad” then? You could have gone for better name.
2. NO Support for Flash
Oh! Are you serious? Apple iPad is designed to give you a better browsing, gaming and rich graphical experience but it doesn’t allow video streaming? You’re offering something that will replace netbooks and laptops and that “something” can NOT run videos and flash based graphics? And what is the use of unlimited data packages then?
3. NO Multitasking
Well, again! iPad is replacement to Netbook and it cannot support multitasking? It makes iPad just another iPod.
Update: There is hope for multitasking on iPad if you jailbreak iPad.
4. NO Webcam, NO Video Calls
There’s no webcam in iPad, neither on back nor on front. So, you can’t have a video chat and can’t make a video call with iPad. You talk about photos and videos and there’s no camera?
5. NO Extension Ports/Adapters, NO Expandable Memory
If you wanted to plug your digital cameras, your external HDD or even a card reader, there’s no way you could do this with iPad. There’s even NO USB port in iPad that even an average Netbook or a cell phone would have. This means you will NOT be able to expand your Apple iPad memory, now that is huge deal breaker to me.
6. NO HD Video Out
Apple iPad could be wonderful tool for presentations provided there was HD video out support. This could also enable users to watch videos in HD on bigger screens.
7. NO Calls and NO SMS
NO! You will not be able to make phone calls and send/receive SMS with iPad. Even in 3G, its data only tablet that doesn’t support phone calls and have no support for SMS either.
Update: iPhone Dev Team is reportedly working on a tool that will enable you to send SMS from iPad 3G.
8. NO Handwriting Recognition
It would have been nice to have handwriting recognition in iPad. Emphasis has been on artists and students, both would have loved the handwriting recognition in iPad but …
9. NO Fit
I have an iPhone and a Laptop, why should I buy an iPad? Is there a single reason for spending $500+ on that “revolutionary” device?
10. An E-Book Reader for $500
So, iBook seems to be the good reason to buy an iPad. But for whopping $500, why shouldn’t you rather go for Amazon Kindle then. At least Kindle’s got E-Ink, that is so easy on eyes and so light on battery. Not to mention that Amazon Kindle has battery time of one week.
Apple iPad seems to be just another iPod, the bigger one that can’t multitask, doesn’t support flash, have no room for expandable memory, doesn’t let you attach your devices to it and list goes on. All this comes with an “unbelievable” price of minimum $500, doesn’t sound like a good deal.

I must say…you make for a compelling argument! My colleagues and I have kicked this around since the announcement, and we all have asked the same question. “How are we going to use this?”. iPad runs the iPhone O/S correct? If I already have an iPhone and/or iTouch…”Why would I get this?”
Essentially, its a big iTouch right?

I couldn’t agree with you more, in fact I made some of the very same arguments on my site prior to reading this post. I think the Kindle will always have its die hard fans due to the reasons you mention (e-ink, battery life) as I believe it resonates with avid readers. Folks whom want to do a bit of everything, eReader, Video, games, email, web, etc.. may be better off with an iPad but not if they already have an iPhone due to the inherent beauty in the fact it “Fits in one’s pocket”. However, with Amazon’s purchase of Touchco, I believe the iPad vs Kindle debate is about to get very interesting.

the thing everyone hasnt really taken into account is: apple knows that all of these things are “issues” with the public….but they will add something small to each subsequent release to take as much money as possible
why give up all the good ideas in one go
flash is a simple argument…they want to make a community for game developers so they can sell games and make money…if they enable flash, newgrounds and candystand will take all that “revenue”….their HTML5 argument is just a cover
in terms of the HD out, i imagine there will be an add-on like the ipod doc with the S-Video out.
And even tho it has 3G access…it doesnt need cell phone or SMS support, it isnt a phone…
otherwise yes to everything else, look for a camera in next years model…
