Release of untethered iPhone 4S & iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak is very near. “Sandbox Broken”, as the latest update from the hacker Pod2G points out, which means that the jailbreak for A5 devices could be released in few days. There is no ETA though, here’s the update from Pod2G:

@planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak.

Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course.

We all want this to be finished ASAP, we’re getting tired!

So, get ready iPad 2 & iPhone 4S owners. Updtate your devices to iOS 5.0.1 firmware, if you haven’t done it already. It’s not clear if the exploit that the jailbreak is based on will work to jailbreak iOS 5.1 or not. All other devices, other than 4S & iPad 2, will be eligible for tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1 thanks to limera1n exploit by GeoHot.

Things may be clear once Pod2G’s jailbreak is released.

Apple has just sent out invites for a special event on January 19. The invitation reads: Join us for an education announcement in the Big Apple. The event will be held in New York City, as reported by Loop Insight. The invitation is typical Apple, simple and to the point yet it does not reveal any specifics.

Apple 19 January Event

iBooks will most likely be the topic of the event. We may also see some partnerships with education institutes, it’s too early to say at the moment.

Microsoft Kinect for Windows Price, Release Date Revealed

On January 10, 2012, in Games, by TechAdmin

Official Kinect for Windows release date has been unveiled by Microsoft. Speaking at CES 2012, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed that Kinect for Windows PC will release on February 1 this year. Microsoft’s plans were no secret as the company has earlier released Kinect SDK for Windows. Now there’s a new device specifically for Windows based PCs.

It should be noted that the Kinect Sensor for Windows is a different device and you won’t be able to use it with Xbox 360. And according to Microsoft, use of Kinect for Xbox 360 on Windows PC will no longer be allowed. As a statement from MSDN reads:

non-commercial deployments using Kinect for Xbox 360 that were allowed using the beta SDK are not permitted with the newly released software. Non-commercial deployments using the new runtime and SDK will require the fully tested and supported Kinect for Windows hardware and software platform, just as commercial deployments do. Existing non-commercial deployments using our beta SDK may continue using the beta and the Kinect for Xbox 360 hardware; to accommodate this, we are extending the beta license for three more years, to June 16, 2016.

The Kinect for Windows price is around $250 and you can pre-order it now from Amazon.

iPhone Dev Team have updated the redsn0w 5.0.1 jailbreak tool to fix some bugs. The new version Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 for Windows and Mac OS X is now available for download. According to Dev Team:

The b3 version of redsn0w fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again.  Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).

Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b3

Windows: redsn0w_win_0.9.10b3.zip

Mac OS X: redsn0w_mac_0.9.10b3.zip

After downloading, you can follow our Redsn0w 0.9.10 guide to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. Mac users can also use PwnageTool 5.0.1 for the same.
