Redsn0w Stuck on “Waiting for Reboot”? Fix it!

Posted by | October 08, 2010 | Hacks | 23 Comments

If you are trying to jailbreak iPhone 3G 4.1 or iPod Touch 2G with redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 1 for Windows and are facing “Waiting for Reboot” message for relatively long time (for more than 20 seconds), use any of following ways to fix it:

Redsn0w “Waiting for Reboot” Fix 1

  • Keep redsn0w running
  • Unplug your device
  • Plug it back in

If this doesn’t work, try this:

Redsn0w “Waiting for Reboot” Fix 2

  • Unplug USB cable from the computer
  • Plug it in a different USB port (preferably in a port closer to the computer)

As you’d notice, the problem is due to the USB connection, so you can try something different like using another PC to fix the issue. The solutions posted here are courtesy the iPhone Dev Team who posted:

Any Windows users seeing “Waiting for reboot” for too long (more than 20 seconds or so), please try “shaking” the JB process by unplugging then replugging your USB cable (while letting redsn0w continue to run).  Also, try using a USB port “closer” to your computer (as opposed to on your monitor or behind another hub).  We’re still tweaking the Windows flow and so any feedback you can provide will help!

    dis did not work

It’s due to USB connection, try it on another PC then.

It’s not due to USB, RashID. I’ve tried it on 3 computers with the same result “waiting for reboot”.

That’s what the iPhone Dev Team says, try using different USB port. If it’s not working, you should probably wait for Beta 2.

so i was stumped just like everyone else on the stuck at reboot problem. but i found a way to get it to reboot.
      1) get the phone out of dfu mode. this can be done by holding the home and power button at the same time until the apple logo come up.
      2) turn the phone back off.
      3) hold the power button for 3 seconds
      4) then hold both power and home button for about 20 seconds (until the phone is entering recovery mode)
      5) let go of power button and just hold home button
now the waiting for reboot will go away and continue with jailbreak.
But we still have one problem. the iphone is still in recovery mode.
run redsn0w and check the tethered boot and that should get you booted up. if not do the step for getting out of dfu mode as mentioned in step 1.
      Hope this helps!!!!!!

Neither of these work for me either. I don’t believe it’s just a connection issue. If it is wouldn’t it occur with other devices too?

    Solution:
    1. Download right farmware that is competible with your iphone (farmwares for 3G and 3Gs are different.)
    2. In redsnow window, select that from browse and … continue …redsnow procedures….

    That is All,

Hey thanks for the post…I am still having a problem with redsnow. I am currently using firmware 4.2.1 and the firmware package I use in redsnow is the 4.2.1 restore ipsw. I’m using redsnow 0.9.6b6 and it along with the previous versions is stuck at reboot. I have placed the phone in and out of reboot, unplugged the USB and nothing has worked. Is there a solution for this problem? In addition, I tried uploading a custom .ipsw made with pwngetool through itunes however I keep getting 16xx errors.
