What are the odds this helps with GPS woes? I wonder aloud.

  • david

It works. Put it on my captivate last night.

  • Matt

it does not work, everytime i start it in download mode it says driver not recognized and i used the one on this list.

  • heath

  • judah

Is there some sort of progress bar or anything which shows if it is actually working?? (I have tried it a couple times and it runs for hours and eventually the pc shuts down) I am wondering if I am doing it correctly… When Odin recognizes my phone should it say: Added!!
or should it say the actual phone name or captivate or something?
    someone please help soon!!!!!

  • Bob

Does your phone have to be rooted for this to be installed?

  • GN

Just installed it, doesn’t have to be rooted. Works quite good.

  • Tony

Just installed on my wife’s captivate last night.

Although I backed up my media files, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they did not get deleted.

    Working great so far!

    • Sonam

      dude how.. i frgt to read the warning and all my apps got deleted ;_;

  • havik

works great. samsung mobile usa told me today that froyo was only going to released on the international versions of the Galaxy S phones and not the U.S. versions. glad i did this. everything did get cleared from the phone though… glad i backed it all up

  • SPChamp1

Just used this, but for some reason all it did initially was just reinstall the stock AT&T firmware with all the bloatware that I removed after rooting the device and using Titanium backup to get rid of it. I am going to try it again to see if that does anything different.

  • Quart

Loaded it when it first came out. There are memory leaks in the web browser so its choppy as all can be. The corp. email has glitches as well. This wasn’t an official build, this was a developer build so it doesn’t work 100%. You can revert it back to 2.1 which I’ve done using the stock ROM from Samsung. All in all, it seems the best thing to do is to wait for the official update… whenever that is. BTW if you didn’t know, Gingerbread was official today… good thing we’re getting froyo.. wait a minute…

  • Austin

Just did this after a couple weeks of hesitation. Was waiting for the OTA, but yea, AT&T is pitiful when it comes to that, so i did it. Didn’t want to lose everything! But i have a nandroid & app manager backup, so i should be able to be back to normal pretty quickly.

Short of it, Froyo’ed the Captivate, worked fine.

  • Houston

what will be a good tool to back up phone before doing this procedure?

  • w0261411

does this version include mobile app wifi tethering??

  • Lisa Cortney

THANK YOU!! Worked like a charm – have been looking for this for MONTHS.
    Awesome :)

  • MikieDude

This was EXCELLENT!!! Thank you so so so much!! my Captivate totally works Swimmingly on FroYo!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! (excellent instructions as well, they were super easy to follow and it was quick as well!!) Now, I’m excited for Gingerbread!!!

  • NYProud

Thank you for the instructions and links, however, before I install Froyo, should I “root” my Captivate and install a custom ROM, or perform those afterward. I want to do all of those but want to do it in the proper order. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • dr4udear

I installed froyo on my Samsung Captivate last night, it got failed, after that my device not worked at all, I removed and replaced the battery and sim card, but never worked, but showed me a symbol to connect to the PC… Please help what to do to make it work fine…

    • james

To reload the firmware, take battery out and sim.
Hold down volume up and down at the same time and poower button. Then plug usb to phone and make sure you have odin ready and plug in computer. Then put batery in. It will go into download mode.

    • rickyfelix

the same thing happened to me. what I had to do is take the battery and sim card out. place battery back restart the Odin exe. press and hold the volume button on the phone.
your phone should be recognized. click start and watch it go. it’s not a long DL….should take seconds.

  • kydroid

Just finished, worked like a charm. I now have Froyo!

  • Bob

dr4udear, go to xda-developers.com. You have most likely bricked your phone. You should be able to get some help there.

  • Addie_goodvibes

Make sure you use the STOCK USB cable, for some reason aftermarket cables do not always work.
I had troubles with this at first , as soon as I switched to my stock USB cable it worked flawlessly

  • Dave G

I installed Froyo as instructed above and everything works great except the WIFI in my house. The phone detects a strong signal from my Router and I entered the correct password multiple times but the phone keeps searching for IP address which it does not seem to find. Has anyone had trouble with the WIFI after installing FROYO? PS- I reset the router multiple times.

  • jarrod c

Dave i had the same problem but when your on the wifi screeen hit the menu button select adcanced options and run your wifi after clicking static and entering your ip address, dns, etc. It worked perfect for me give it a try

  • sharkboychomp

    Works perfectly!

  • Mohamed Adly

I have a problem that when i press start it gives me pass!

  • Nikatnight

Will the bill-to-mobile feature still work? And does this drop all of the Att firmware AND touchwiz? Or is it stock android?

  • Daniel

I have tried this and it does indeed work. Make sure to follow it step by step, do not skip anything!

  • justdabz

How long it take to finish? My captivate is still showing Downloading… (and dont turn off Target!!!!). It’s already been more than 10 mins.

    Odin3 clicker says

All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
    Added!!
    Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
    File analysis..
    Get PIT for mapping..
    Firmware update start..
    Completed..
All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)

Should I disconnect the USB and reboot my phone?

  • roger m

mines is doing the samething smh

  • roger m

you guys, i am nervous because im having trouble …it seems as if the download is stuck! and i cant use my phone…!

  • kawa

anybody’s heard of the issue with email (blank reply/forward, etc.) and unable to accept/decline calendar invite? It’s on the web about Oct last year. Wondered if it’s the same leaked version??

    Any insight?

  • Mike

Was able to put 2.2 on my wife’s captivate. She and I both thank you!

    Works like a charm!

Other than I had to use the ADB commands to enter download mode. For some reason the 3 button method didn’t work for me.

  • kelbinator

Just followed these instructions after weeks of wringing my hands worrying I’d break my phone and angry that Samsung/ATT couldn’t get it done.

Took several hours to download, 10 minutes to upgrade, and my Captivate is like a brand new phone…SPEEDY, everything works (esp. GPS), and new UI is great. I love my phone again.

    Ahhhh.

  • pram

awsome!! works like a charm!! just updated my captivate!! to hell w/ At&t n their useless customer service!! god bless!! S.S.

  • Daniel

Can anyone give us an idea of how long the odin loader should be stuck at file analysis.. I see all these users posting it works just fine, can you give a brief description of your experiance with this update and using odin?

  • jt

will it get rid of the SWYPE text feature????

  • nikatnight

i followed the steps exactly and there is definitely something missing. do i do anything with the downloaded files once they’re downloaded? or do i just leave them alone (per the instructions).

i successfully downloaded everything and started odin then put my phone in the proper mode and connected it and nothing happens. i waited for 30mins then clicked start and it said all threads completed. (succed 0/fail 0).

can someone please help me out? these instructions leave out key things to do, i’m sure.

please email me so i can get my phone updated!

Make sure you extract the driver files to your hard drive before you run setup. It took me a couple of times installing the drivers to realize that the last screen of the install wizard indicated that it didn’t install correctly. Extracting the files first seemed to make the difference.

Once I had that corrected, Odin recognized my phone when I connected the USB cable, by showing 0:[COM3].

  • Braxton

Will I loose root, is this the AT&T version(with all of their bloatware)?
