UXStyle CoreBy default, Windows 7 does not allow installing third party themes for Windows so you need to patch the system files to make it work. UXStyle Core is one such lite weight tool that lets you install unsupported themes for Windows 7. It’s designed for users with minimal technical knowledge. UXStyle Core tool creates a process “UnsignedThemesSvc.exe” that runs in background. Here is an easy guide on how to install Windows 7 themes with UXStyle Core to customize the look and feel of Windows 7 OS. UXStyle Core tool was created by Rafael from withinwindows.com in 2009 and makes installing themes on Windows 7 very easy. Follow the steps:

  1. Download UXStyle Core Link1 | Link2
  2. Install UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x86.msi for 32 bit and UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x64.msi for 64 bit version of Windows
  3. Restart your PC after installation
  4. After restarting, Run MMC Services by entering services.msc in Run dialog box (Shortcut key to open Run dialog box is Window+R)
  5. When console is open, press “U” and look for service named “Unsigned Themes”
  6. Check if “Unsigned Themes” service is started or stopped
  7. If stopped, right click on it and click “start”.

This should be it; however, some users may face the error message saying “Windows could not start the Unsigned Themes service on local computer”. Here is screenshot of the error you may receive:

Unsigned Themes Service Error

To fix this error, you will need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package:

Download x32

Download x64

This should fix the issue. Now you can download Windows 7 Themes and install them without any problems.
