There are quite a few paid solutions to unlock BlackBerry device but before you go on to purchase one, why not try to unlock BlackBerry for FREE. It’s, however, bit tricky process since it involves asking your carrier for BlackBerry MEP code. Still you should give it a try as it won’t cost you anything. This process can be used to unlock BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Pearl or any other device. Follow the steps below:
Before you Begin:
- Get your BlackBerry IMEI code (Dial *#06# from BlackBerry, your IMEI will pop up. If this doesn’t work try this.)
- Contact (Call/Email/Visit) your carrier and trick them to give you BlackBerry MEP code. You may need to make a valid excuse, if they ask or refuse initially (like you’re going overseas for some months & would need to use BlackBerry with local sim card)
- Make sure your official carrier Sim card is inserted.
Step 1: Turn Wireless Radio Off (Important)
Step 2: Go to Settings > Options > Advanced Options and select SIM Card
Step 3: Hold down “Alt” key and type “MEPD”. This will not show up on screen. Once you type it, you should be able to see “Network as Active”. This means that your BlackBerry is carrier locked.
Step 4: Hold down “Alt” key and type “MEPE” or “MEPD”
Step 5: Enter the unlock code (MEP code) and press Enter.
Step 6: Reboot device. Voila! Your BlackBerry is now unlocked.
