Install Mobile Terminal 4.26 for iOS 4 / 4.0.1 [iPhone 4, 3GS & iPad 3.2.1]

Current version of Mobile Terminal for iPhone crashes on iOS 4. To resolve the problem, you can install Mobile Terminal 4.26 that works fine on iOS 4 / iOS 4.0.1. I tried this on iPhone 3GS and it works like charm. Here are step by step instructions:

Step 1: Jailbreak iPhone / iPad with JailbreakMe

Step 2: Download Mobile Terminal 4.26 (MobileTerminal-426.deb) to your desktop

Step 3: SSH into iPhone. Windows Users: Use i-FunBox or WinCSP. Mac Users: Use CyberDuck

Step 4: Copy the MobileTerminal-426.deb to /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

If you can’t locate the “Cydia” folder in “Media”, create it. Then create another folder named “AutoInstall” in “Cydia” folder and copy the .deb file there.

Step 5: Reboot iPhone / iPad.

Once device reboot is complete, you should find Mobile Terminal on your SpringBoard. Run it and this time Mobile Terminal will not crash.

Note: After the reboot, if you can’t find Terminal app on your SpringBoard, reboot your device again, this should work now.

UPDATE: An update to Terminal is now available. Try Mobile Terminal 511-1 now.

this didn’t seem to work with my 3g, i copied the file to tmp, with diskaid i opened the root folder and clicked on the shortcut for tmp and copied the file over, closed diskaid and turned the phone off then back on, the file is gone and nothing new on the springboard.

also didn’t work with i-funbox, seem to do the exact same thing, but neither one got the terminal on the springboard.

Great fix man! Worked for me with the Media/Cydia/AutoInstall approach, for some reason with the temp folder method no dice. Also helps to force quit iTunes upon reboot….

  • Mdubs

Actually, watch out folks…Installed mobileterminal, changed password from “alpine” to my new root password, and now none of my iTunes apps will launch and function properly. Any ideas?…..

  • Nathan

Worked for me on my 3gs thanks

  • westwaerts

    works with var/root/media/…..

    its AutoInstall not Autoinstall
    be aware

  • megadude

the create folders …Cydia/AutoInstall works for me, but use “AutoInstall” not “Autoinstall”. The later didn’t work. I don’t know what the dude above is talking about. This also works for OS 4.0.2

    Thanks dude!!!!

What is the login & password for SSH connection to the iPhone?

    Thanks

  • cjammer02

The Copy the MobileTerminal-426.deb to /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall approach worked for me. @ Yoshi……defaul login is ‘root’ and password is ‘alpine’

  • Jake

Yea, after doing the above now my phone has No Service, as in if F’ed something up with my activation with ATT

  • ND

If you can’t locate the “Cydia” folder in “Media”, create it. Then create another folder named “AutoInstall” in “Cydia” folder and copy the .deb file there.

  • niko

Works great. How come they haven’t fixed the one in cydia yet.

PS you don’t need to do that autoinstall stuff. Just cupy the .deb file anywhere on the phone. Log in as root over ssh and do “dpkg -i MobileTerminal-426.deb”
You will have to respring or reboot after that in order to see the icon.

Works on 3G iOS 4.1 Pwnd. But I can’t change anything in Preferences. The screen opens, but none of the options (Menu, Gestures, Terminal 1,…) do anything.

  • Johnathan

works but phone seems slower now

  • Yoann06

    YESSSS!
    Very cool method
    worked like a charm for me with 3GS / 4.1 sn0wbreeze-2.1
just need to understand now why command like ping goes “command not found”

  • Mircsicz

    Great workaround!!! Thx a ton..

  • Darren Fava

Why is it that commands like ifconfig or ping result in command not found?
    Thanks

  • cristi

    copy var/root/media
    open putty
defaul login is ‘root’ and password is ‘alpine’
    cd Media
    dpkg -i MobileTerminal-426.deb
    After finishing
    Reboot iPhone

  • trevorlf
