Like with previous iOS versions, Apple iOS 4.2 Beta for iPad torrent has also leaked in the wild. The only way to prevent illegal firmware downloads is to enable UDID activation. We are not sure if iOS 4.2 requires UDID or not but it’s available for download even for non-developers. So, if you want to give iOS 4.2 for iPad a try, find the download link below:

In case you wanted to revert to older version, here is our guide to downgrade iPad iOS 4.2 to 3.2.x.

Try this at your own risk and before you proceed, do read the note below:

Note: We do not support / encourage you to download iOS 4.2 Beta for iPad as it violates Apple TOS. iOS 4.2 is meant for developers anyway and may come with some bugs that might cause problems for you. Links are posted just for sake of sharing and will be removed if requested.

Unless you are registered(paid) as a developer DO NOT DO THIS. You will be totally screwed.

dont do this if you are not developer, you will effectively brick your iPad and will have to hard-restore it to the old backup

What difference does it make if you’re a developer or not? Why will it brick my ipad but not yours?

You need to be added to a developer account. UDIDs are tied to developers to test software so if you want to install it, your device’s UDID needs to be added to a developers account so it authorizes it after it installs.

    Okay thanks for the explanation.

Well, I was able to UPDATE my 3.2 iPad to Beta 1 of 4.2 with no issues. However if you try to do a clean build (RESTORE) using 4.2, you will not be able to activate it without the developer account thing.

Has this changed with 4.2 BETA 2?

it is absolutely not true that you will brick your ipad when you install the latest GM (currently 4.2.1) when you don’t have a developer account. you also don’t have to connect anything to your UDID. Just google for the latest .ipsw (just watch out the it is for restore and the correct device) and follow the normal manual restore process for your device
