Apple just released iOS 5.0.1 Beta for developers. Thanks to Redsn0w, you can already jailbreak 5.0.1 beta 9A402. This will, however, be tethered jailbreak as untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak hasn’t been released yet. Here is a guide on redsn0w 5.0.1 jailbreak:

Before you Begin:

Download iOS 5.0 9A334

Download iOS 5.0.1 Beta 9A402

Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b7:

Step 1: Restore your device to iOS 5.0.1 Beta, if you haven’t already.

Step 2: Launch Redsn0w and click on “Extras” button

Step 3: Click on “Specify Firmware” button, then browse and select iOS 5.0 IPSW (not iOS 5.0.1). Redsn0w will confirm that it will use iOS 5.0 for rest of the session, now go back to main screen.

Step 4: Click on “Jailbreak” button.

Step 5: Follow on-screen instructions to put your device in DFU mode. You’ll need to:

  • Hold Power + Home button for upto 10 seconds.
  • Release Power button but continue holding Home button for up to 20 seconds.

Redsn0w will automatically proceed once your device is in DFU mode.

Step 6: Wait for Redsn0w to complete the jailbreak process, your device will reboot once done.

Tethered Boot iOS 5.0.1 Beta

Your device has now been jailbroken, you’ll notice a white icon titled Cydia on SpringBoard. To have it corrected, you will need to boot tethered. Follow these steps:

Step 7: In redsn0w, navigate to: Extras > Specify Firmware .. then browse and select iOS 5.0 firmware like you did in step 3 above.

Step 8: Now navigate to: Extras > Just Boot to boot tethered.

Step 9: Put your device in DFU mode.

Step 10: Wait for device to boot.

Once your device reboots, you will notice Cydia on SpringBoard. That’s it! iOS 5.0.1 beta jailbreak is complete.
