Adobe Square – Flash Player for IE 9 64 Bit Beta

On September 15, 2010, in Software, by TechAdmin

Microsoft has just released IE 9 Beta and Adobe welcomes it with Adobe Square, the Flash Player for Internet Explorer 9 64 Bit version. All new Flash player supports hardware acceleration with IE 9. Here are full release notes from Adobe:

“As part of our collaboration with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer team over the past few months, Flash Player “Square” has been enhanced to directly support the hardware-accelerated graphics capabilities in the newest version of IE. Flash Player “Square” leverages the new GPU support available with Internet Explorer 9 Beta to deliver a faster and more responsive user experience. In our internal testing, we’ve seen significant improvements in Flash Player graphics performance – exceeding 35% in Internet Explorer 9 Beta compared to Flash Player running in previous versions of IE. While the performance improvements will vary based on the type of content and how it’s created, bitmap-heavy content for Flash Player will experience the greatest benefit. Content created for Flash Player that’s embedded as transparent (wmode=”transparent”) will also run more efficiently given the benefits of offloading the HTML and Flash content compositing to the GPU.”

Now there’s an easy way to install Frash on iPhone via Cydia Repo. You just need to add Benm.at repo in Cydia and then Install Frash by searching in Cydia. Here is step by step guide:

Note: This will NOT work on iPhone 3G, works fine for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPad 3.2.1.

Step 1: Jailbreak iPhone using JailbreakMe

Step 2: Open Cydia, go to “Manage” tab and tap on “Sources”.

Step 3: Once in “Sources” tap on “Edit” (top-right corner” then tap on “Add” (top-left corner).

Step 4: A window will pop up enter http://repo.benm.at and tap on “Add Source” then tap “Done”.

Benm.at Cydia Repo

Step 5: Once source is added, go to “Search” tab and search for “Frash”.

Frash in Cydia

Step 6: Frash should appear in search results, install it.

That’s it. No need to SSH into iPhone, you can install Frash right from your iPhone and browse Flash content. We already have Frash 0.02 and a way to install it but that requires you to SSH into iPhone using either of i-FunBox, WinCSP or CyberDuck.

How to Install Frash (Flash) on iPhone & iPad

On August 8, 2010, in Hacks, How to, by TechAdmin

Want to install Flash on iPhone or iPad? We have Frash 0.02 released recently that works just fine to run Flash content on iOS 4 and iPad 3.2.1. There are no guarantees however. According to devs:

“DISCLAIMER: The compiled binaries are based upon ALPHA code by COMEX. Code from the github repository can change minutely creating a significantly more stable version of code. DO NOT expect this compiled code to work on every Flash object or even be the slightest bit stable.

If you are ready for the adventure, follow this simple step by step guide:

Installing Flash on iPhone & iPad

Before you Begin:

If you already have Frash 0.01 installed, remove it first before installing the update.

Step 1: Jailbreak iPhone with JailbreakMe

Step 2: Download Frash-0.02.deb [Download | Mirror]

Step 3: SSH into iPhone. Windows: i-FunBox or WinCSP. Mac: CyberDuck

Step 4: Once you can access iPhone file system, copy the downloaded Frash-0.02.deb to folder named “tmp”.

Step 5: Reboot your iPhone or iPad

Once your device reboots, open Safari and browse to any website that serves Flash content. You should be able to run Flash content using Frash now, simply tap on “Flash” link and it will load Flash content.

Credits for Flash port for iPhone go to Comex and Grant Pannell for their awesome work.

Note: If copying file to tmp folder doesn’t work for you, do this:

Copy the MobileTerminal-426.deb to /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

If you can’t locate the “Cydia” folder in “Media”, create it. Then create another folder named “AutoInstall” in “Cydia” folder and copy the .deb file there.

Then reboot your iPhone again, this should work now.
