Google AppsGoogle is set to launch its app store that will let developers to earn money while contributing to different Google applications and services including Google Apps. According to Wall Street Journal, Google is set to launch its online app store as soon as in March 2010. Goal really is to enhance the online product offerings to attract more business customers to capture more market share and further strengthen the online advertising model that is core ingredient of Google’s revenue. Google App store will include paid apps that will be available for purchase as add-ons to Google Apps and other Google services.

Google App Store may also be an attempt to compete with Microsoft Office. Google’s been trying to mature its Google Docs to bring it at par with Microsoft Office but later still holds huge market share of 50 million users at contrast with Google’s 2 million business users (reportedly). With App store in place, the Search Engine giant will look to fill the loopholes and offer enhanced editing and formatting features to lure more customers. However such a practice has its risks, users may not be comfortable storing sensitive data at remote locations. So, there could be apps allowing you to sync your offline files with online versions but how effective, and more importantly, how trustworthy will 3rd party apps will be to users still remains doubtful.

Google App store will provide another great opportunity to earn money while developing for enterprise versions of Google’s popular Gmail for Business, Google Calendar and Google Docs. To start with, Google may allow free access to the app store and could also give a share of revenue to developer to attract more developers. It’s interesting new prospect for both Google and for developers, let’s see how it works for them.
