GingerNinja – Android 2.3 Gingerbread for HTC Desire

Want to install Gingerbread on Desire? Even without Bluetooth & Wi-Fi (for now)? GingerNinja lets you install Gingerbread for HTC Desire but like with any other unofficial ROMs to update HTC Desire with Gingerbread, it has few shortcomings. Here is a brief list of what works and what doesn’t:

What works / has been fixed

  • APNs List
  • Charging/Activity LED
  • Hardware keymap
  • Radio interface (2G/3G)
  • Screen density set correctly
  • SD card storage

What doesn’t work / still to be fixed

  • Sound
  • Bluetooth
  • Wifi
  • Weird lag bug

This will, of course, change with time and more bugs will be fixed. However if you want a test drive of Gingerbread on HTC Desire, you may go ahead with it. It’s pointless to install it in current form though as sound, bluetooth and wifi are not working. Decision is yours.

For updates to download GingerNinja, head to this XDA Forum Thread.

Root HTC DesirePaul, a user at Modaco Forums has been able to gain the full root access for HTC Desire and HTC Legend smartphones running on Android OS 2.1. Paul, who also has managed to root Nexus One, is still working on to root HTC Desire and HTC Legend and we may soon see HTC Desire and HTC Legend rooted. We will keep you updated at this. In the meantime, you may want to install ADB for your Android device or create a GoldCard as both of these processes are required to be completed in order to gain full access to file system and perform the root operation.
