Sn0wbreeze 2.2 Baseband Preservation Mode to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 4, 3GS 4.2.1

As hinted by the sn0wbreeze developer, ih8sn0w, sn0wbreeze 2.2 will have a new feature that will allow users to preserve the baseband. That’s something that PwnageTool does and is available only for Mac users. Sn0wbreeze is already touted as PwnageTool for Mac and this new feature will further testify it. Here is the screenshot of this new Sn0wbreeze feature as posted by iH8sn0w:

Sn0wbreeze 2.2 Baseband Preservation Mode will be useful for Windows users who want to upgrade iOS without updating the baseband. There is still no news on the release date of sn0wbreeze 2.2.

Official PwnageTool for Windows Release by chpwn?

PwnageTool for Windows

It looks like the official PwnageTool for Windows might finally release soon, reveals a heated exchange of words between MuscleNerd and iH8sn0w. PwnageTool lets you upgrade your firmware without updating your baseband and is only available for Mac. ih8sn0w develops an alternate called sn0wbreeze but that doesn’t help unlockers as baseband will still get updated.

Now Windows users can hope for PwnageTool for Windows soon as hinted by tweets from MuscleNerd:

@iH8sn0w seriously…@chpwn is your age, and about to release a better version of PT for win. Don’t *blame* him for that.

So, official PwnageTool for Windows is coming soon. In the meantime, you can jailbreak iPhone 4 4.1 with limera1n or with greenpois0n as well as with redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 2 (redsn0w tutorial). Unlockers have the only option that is to use PwnageTool 4.1.2 to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4.

Sn0wbreeze developer has hinted for release of updated sn0wbreeze 2.0 that will jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4 and 3GS. Current version, sn0wbreeze 2.0.2, supports iPhone 3GS however ih8sn0w plans to add iPhone 4 jailbreak support in the upcoming version. Here is the image posted by ih8sn0w that reveals his plans:

Fix Sn0wbreeze 2.0 “hfsplus.exe has stopped working” Error

If you are facing the error message “hfsplus.exe has stopped working” in sn0wbreeze 2.0, you’re not alone. However, there’s simple fix for it and that is to re-download the sn0wbreeze 2.0. Here is the screenshot of error:

Here is the official word from iH8sn0w:

If you got hfsplus.exe crashed. Just re-download. Forgot 1 file.

So, download sn0wbreeze 2 now and fix the hfsplus.exe has stopped working error. After that you can perform iOS 4.1 jailbreak iPhone 3GS old bootrom and iPhone 3G with sn0wbreeze without any error. You can also jailbreak iPod Touch 2G iOS 4.1 with sn0wbreeze.

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G iOS 4.1 with Sn0wbreeze 2.0

Sn0wbreeze 2.0 is out now and you can jailbreak iPod Touch 2G iOS 4.1 with it. Process to jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPod Touch is similar to the one we posted to jailbreak iOS 4 with sn0wbreeze 1.6.1. So you can follow the old guide that comes with slideshow or you can follow the guide posted below:

Before you Begin:

  • Download and install iTunes 10 for Windows
  • Backup iPod Touch data
  • Download iOS 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G
  • Download Sn0wbreeze 2
  • Sn0wbreeze requires .NET Framework 3.5 to function. Download it here if you don’t have it installed.
  • RECOMMENDED: Keep all files at a location other than desktop.

Step 1: Run Sn0wbreeze. You will see the welcome screen.

Step 2: Select either of Simple Mode or Expert Mode]. If you want customizations like backgrounds, custom boot logo or multi-tasking then you should go for Expert Mode.

Step 3: Browse the downloaded iOS 4.1 firmware file (.ipsw) that you want to jailbreak. Then click Next button.

Sn0wbreeze will now verify the iOS 4.1 IPSW.

Step 4: Click next and Sn0wbreeze will start the process to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G. If you selected “Expert Mode”, you will be presented with following options:

  • General
  • Unlocks
  • Installers
  • Custom Packages
  • Custom Boot Logos
  • Build IPSW

Each option lets you customize your IPSW. Select the ones you need and customize them to your requirements.

Step 5: After you are done with all customizations, select “Build IPSW” option and click Next button. Sn0wbreeze will now process iOS 4.1 jailbreak and you will see this:

It should take some time.

Step 6: Once the process is complete you will be notified and your custom firmware file will be placed on desktop.

Step 7: Load custom IPSW in iPod Touch

  • Connect your iPod Touch with computer
  • Run iTunes and select your device from left sidebar
  • In summary tab, you will see “Restore” button at bottom

  • Press and Hold Shift key and click on “Restore” button.
  • Now browse for custom IPSW that you cooked with sn0wbreeze
  • iTunes will load the firmware into iTunes.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 with Sn0wbreeze 2.0

Here is step by step guide on how to jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 using sn0wbreeze 2.0. It should be noted that sn0wbreeze 2.0 works only for iPhone 3GS old bootrom, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. If you want to jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4.1 with sn0wbreeze, this guide applies to iPhone 3G as well.

Note: This guide is similar to the one we posted for iOS 4 jailbreak with sn0wbreeze 1.6.1. So you can follow that guide with slideshow or you can follow the guide posted below:

Before you Begin:

Step 1: Launch Sn0wbreeze. You will see the welcome screen.

Step 2: Select Mode [Expert Mode / Simple Mode]. This guide uses “Expert Mode” because it allows customizations like backgrounds, custom boot logo or multi-tasking.

Step 3: Browse the original iOS 4.1 firmware file (.ipsw) that you want to jailbreak.

Step 4: Sn0wbreeze will verify IPSW and will display following message:

Step 5: Click next and Sn0wbreeze will start its process. If you selected “Expert Mode”, you will be presented with following options:

  • General

  • Custom Boot Logos
  • Build IPSW

You can tweak each of these features individually as per your requirements.

Step 6: After performing all customizations, select “Build IPSW” and click Next button.

Step 7: Sn0wbreeze will now process iOS 4.1 jailbreak. Once the process is complete your custom IPSW can be found on desktop.

Step 8: Loading custom IPSW in iPhone

To load iOS 4.1 custom IPSW:

  • Connect your iPhone with computer
  • Run iTunes and select your device from left sidebar
  • In summary tab, you will see “Restore” button at bottom

  • Now browse for custom IPSW that you cooked with sn0wbreeze

Sn0wbreeze 2.0 by iH8sn0w will work well to jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPhone 3GS New Bootrom / Old Bootrom, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 2G and older devices. It should be noted that sn0wbreeze will not work to jailbreak iPhone 4 and newer devices including iPod Touch 4G and iPad. Those with newer Apple devices should wait for greenpois0n that will be based on shatter exploit by Pod2G.

iOS 4.2 Jailbreak iPhone 3GS with Sn0wbreeze Confirmed

Upcoming Sn0wbreeze is all set to jailbreak iOS 4.2 Beta on iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom. This was confirmed by iH8Sn0w, the developer of Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool. Earlier sn0wbreeze was reported to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3GS, a video proof of jailbreak was also published that further confirmed the claims. Here is the update from iH8Sn0w confirming iOS 4.2 jailbreak on iPhone 3GS:

It should be noted that Mac users can already iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 with PwnageTool Bundle but there is no jailbreak tool for Windows users at the moment. Sn0wbreeze will address that segment. However for those who want to jailbreak iPhone 4 & iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.1 or iPad iOS 4.2, should wait for release of Greenpois0n jailbreak that will be based on SHAtter exploit and will jailbreak all iDevices for life.

As we reported earlier, sn0wbreeze 2.0 jailbreak for iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 release could be near. Now we have iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 jailbroken with sn0wbreeze as a video proof published by DinoD7 confirms it. Here is the video:

Just for reminder, Sn0wbreeze 2.0 will work for iPhone 3GS Old bootrom only, so new bootrom users on iOS 4.1 are out of luck and should wait for SHAtter based jailbreak that could be named greenpois0n or something else.
