Apple iOS 4.2.6 Build 8E200 for Verizon iPhone 4 Avaialble for Download

Apple has released iOS 4.2.6 8E200 for Verizon iPhone 4. At the time of announcement, Verizon iPhone 4 had iOS 4.2.5 Build 8E128 and was expected to arrive with iOS 4.3 firmware. Apple, however, seems to have changed the plan and Verizon iPhone 4 will ship with iOS 4.2.6 8E200. An update to iOS 4.3 for all devices may follow soon.

TinyUmbrella 4.2.1 Tutorial: Backup iOS 4.2.1 SHSH Blobs

This TinyUmbrella 4.2.1 tutorial will help you backup iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs. Apple has already released iOS 4.3 Beta 1 and if you upgrade to it, you won’t be able to restore to iOS 4.2.1 if you don’t have iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs saved.

Here are step by step TinyUmbrella 4.2.1 instructions to backup your blobs:

Step 1: Download TinyUmbrella

Step 2: Connect your device (running iOS 4.2.1) to the computer via USB

Step 3: Launch the downloaded TinyUmbrella

Step 4: You’ll see the connected device in TinyUmbrella sidebar (top-left). Select your device (click on it).

Step 5: Click on Save SHSH to start saving your SHSH blobs

That’s all you’ve got to do. TinyUmbrella will now save iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs. This will help you restore custom IPSW to iOS 4.2.1 and may be crucial to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 or later.

Apple iPhone iOS Alarm Clock bug prevents your iDevices to say good morning to you in the new year. While reasons are not known, you can fix iPhone alarm clock bug, thankfully. And, there’s no app for that. The bug will fix itself by January 3, 2011 however if you want to fix it before Monday morning, set it to repeat. If you don’t know, here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to iPhone Alarm Clock app
  2. Tap the “Edit” button (on top-left") if you want to edit an existing alarm OR the “+” button (top-right) if you want to add new alarm
  3. Select an Alarm you want to edit
  4. Tap on “Repeat”
  5. Select the days that you want the alarm to be repeated
  6. Save the Alarm

Apple might release an update to fix iOS Alarm Clock bug.

MuscleNerd Shows Off Untethered 4.2.1 Jailbreak [Video]

According to MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team, untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is almost ready. His latest video confirms untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak for iPod Touch 4G as the device boots successfully in jailbroken mode without being connected to computer. In words of MuscleNerd:

Got "backup plan" for untethered 4.2.1 JB working (video coming up). Uses mysterious 4.2b3 hashes Cydia kept for you

(It’s a "backup plan" because comex is working on a more extensible one, but this method is also generalizable)

iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak isn’t released yet so if you want to jailbreak your device right now you can use redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 4 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. iPhone 3GS and 3G users can also unlock iOS 4.2.1 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.

Ultrasn0w iOS 4.2.1 Unlock to Release this week

Good news for those who want to unlock iPhone 3GS & 3G on iOS 4.2.1. Ultrasn0w unlock for iOS 4.2.1 could release as soon as this week. However, iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 users might still have to wait for now. According to Dev Team blog:

After redsn0w is officially released with the new Cydia and kernel patches, we’ll be able to assess the unlock situation.  It’s already looking very promising though, so expect the unlock for the 3G and 3GS to be coming this week.  The i4 unlock is taking more effort though, and no further concrete info is available about that yet.

This also confirms the release of redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 4, that will jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on all iDevices. However, it could be tethered jailbreak for now.

Download iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch [Official], Available Today!

You’ll be able to download iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch today, according to official press release from Apple. This should be big news especially for iPad 4.2 wannabes since this major update finally brings multitasking along with lot of other features like AirPlay and AirPrint to the iPad. Earlier, Apple has released iOS 4.2 GM and iOS 4.2.1 GM for developers but consumers are still running iPad 3.2.2. That will change today, according to Apple:

The iOS 4.2 update is available today to download to iPad, iPhone and iPod touch by syncing the device with iTunes 10.1. iOS 4.2 is compatible with iPad, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, second and third generation iPod touch (late 2009 models with 32GB or 64GB) and new iPod touch. Some features may not be available on all products. For example, Multitasking requires iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, third generation iPod touch (late 2009 models with 32GB or 64GB) or later.

If you want to jailbreak iPad, you should back up your SHSH blobs already with TinyUmbrella. Although limera1n exploit will work just fine with all iDevices for now but it’s untethered status is not confirmed yet. Confused? See the difference between tethered vs untethered jailbreak.

As for download links for iOS 4.2, the update is not available as yet but we’ll update you soon as updates starts rolling out.

Download iOS 4.2.1 GM (8C148) for iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch

Apple has just released iOS 4.2.1 GM for developers. So, if you are registered as a developer, you can head to Apple Developer Center and download iOS 4.2.1 GM for iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. This release is strictly for developers and requires a UDID to be installed on the device.

Apple released iOS 4.2 GM 2 last week and final version of iOS 4.2 is also scheduled to be released this month.
