HoneyPad for iPad – The Honeycomb for iPad Theme

You may not install Honeycomb on iPad but it doesn’t mean that your iPad can’t get the Android love. HoneyPad is a Honeycomb theme for iPad / iPad 2 that lets you change the look and feel of your iPad to match that of Android Honeycomb powered tablet. Download links are given at the end of the post.

The theme can be installed on any jailbroken iPad or iPad 2. It installs via DreamBoard and works in a way that you’d actually feel like running Android Honeycomb on iPad. Some features of the theme are listed below:

  • almost a fully functional Android Honeycomb OS for iPad
  • App folder which will include All, Favorites, Games, Social and Utilities folder (editable)
  • Setting page which will incude Widgets, App Shortcuts, Wallpapers, Themes, and More
  • Add, Remove and Move the widgets on the fly
  • Add, Remove, Edit and Move predefined App shortcuts on the fly
  • Widgets added so far LiveWeather, Animated Weather (optimized for iPad), Honeycomb lock, HTC date weather, Sticky Note (functional), Calendar, Facebook Widget and Calculator (more to come)
  • 20 Panoramic Wallpaper to choose from (more to come)
  • Shift Mode – drag and flick widgets and App Shortcuts to reposition.
  • Predefined Themes which will include Asus Eee Pad Transformer (Default theme), Motorola Xoom and HTC Flyer (more to come)
  • Panoramic Wallpaper

You can get the theme from Cydia with all these cool features. It comes in 2 versions, HoneyPad Pro ($2.99) & Lite (free). You can test the theme by installing the lite version first and can then purchase the pro version with full features. Here are some screenshots of the theme:

SHAtter Could Jailbreak iPad 2 iOS 4.3

With iPad 2 and iOS 4.3 set to release on March 11, everyone in jailbreak community is concerned if SHAtter exploit will work to jailbreak iPad 2 iOS 4.3 or will Apple close the hole. Chronic Dev Team’s p0sixninja tweeted saying:

We’re crossing our fingers and hoping that at least SHAtter is still in iPad2

If it works, Chronic Dev Team will definitely put SHAtter in Greenpois0n RC7 to jailbreak iPad 2 4.3 iOS. SHAtter was never released, and was preserved when GeoHot released Limera1n jailbreak tool back in October 2010. However, it’s still not certain if SHAtter will work as it was reportedly leaked. Let’s hope it does work and we get to see iOS 4.3 jailbreak soon after it’s released on March 11.

Apple iPad 2Apple CEO Steve Jobs just announced the iPad 2 price and release date besides unveiling the iPad 2 specs. Release date as near as March 11, 2011 and iPad 2 price is same as of iPad 1. Here are some details:

Screen Resolution: 1024×768

5 Things to Expect in iPad 2 New Features

Apple is all set to launch iPad 2 tomorrow. There’ve been plenty of rumors going on for quite some time now. Here is our list of 10 things that you can expect to be part of iPad 2 new features:

Thinner and Lighter

It’s almost certain that Apple will further enhance the hardware of iPad 2. Obvious goal would be to make iPad 2 size a bit thinner and also to make it less heavier.

Rear & FaceTime Camera

iPad was criticized for lack of camera and when a range of Android tablets launched with camera, the iPad owners certainly felt left out. We can expect a rear camera as well as FaceTime camera in iPad. iPad is the only Apple product that can’t do FaceTime, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G & Mac all have got the FaceTime treatment.

Improved Processor & RAM

1GHz processor and 256MB RAM are certainly not gonna look good when compared to dual-core Android tablets. So we can expect at least 512MB RAM in iPad 2 and perhaps a dual-core processor, too.

Higher Screen Resolution

iPad 1 was released with 1024×768 screen resolution that looked good enough a year ago. There’s every chance that Apple will bring iPad 2 with higher screen resolution for improved display.

Thunderbolt in iPad 2

It’s less likelier of all (expected) new iPad 2 features but it actually makes sense. High speed file transfer and videos @ 10GB/sec would be awesome.

Let’s see what we get to see tomorrow. Apple iOS 5.0 preview is also expected to be the part of the show.

Apple iOS 5.0 Preview on March 2?

While Apple hasn’t released iOS 4.3 final version as yet, there are already rumors for iOS 5.0 preview scheduled for iPad 2 launch event on March 2, 2011. According to Engadget:

It’s also almost guaranteed that we’ll see the next version of iOS (number 5 in all likelihood, along with its SDK for devs), and an expansion of Apple’s cloud services (that part is a little… foggy right now).

This will also be the perfect setting for Apple iPhone 5 launch, expected in June 2011. We hope we get to see iOS 5.0 preview as soon as Wednesday.
