Apple Q4 2010 earnings report sees Apple revenue reaching $20 Billion. In a press release, Apple reported net Q4 2010 profit of $4.31 Billion (4.64 per share). These figures are largely due to impressive iPad sales and tremendous rise in iPhone sales, Apple sold:

  • 4.19 million iPads
  • 14.1 million iPhones (Up 91% from Q4 2009)
  • 3.89 million Macs (Up 27% from Q4 2009)
  • 9.05 million iPods (Down 11% from Q4 2009)

Apart from that, international sales have made a handsome contribution to these figures as 57% of revenue comes from international sales.

Apple is expecting to continue the growth with magical Steve Jobs saying “We still have a few surprises left for the remainder of this calendar year”.

iPod Touch 4G RAM: 256 MB

I don’t know if this comes as a shock or surprise but iPod Touch 4G RAM is just 256 MB. This was confirmed by gruber on Twitter, saying:

Ways that the iPod Touch is crappier than iPhone 4:

  • only 256 MB of RAM;
  • non-IPS display;
  • worse camera(s);
  • no GPS;

This very much tells the difference. It still runs FaceTime and GameCenter though, things that poor iPhone 3G can’t run.

No GameCenter for iPhone 3G in iOS 4.1 Update

According to official GameCenter page at Apple, there’s no GameCenter for iPhone 3G in upcoming iOS 4.1 update. Apple iOS 4.1 is coming this week (expected tomorrow Sep 8). Among the major updates that it brings is the GameCenter. According to Apple:

Game Center lets friends — and soon-to-be-friends — in on the action. Invite someone to join, then get a game going. Or go up against people you don’t know, from anywhere in the world, in a multiplayer game. It’s your world. Everyone else is just playing in it.

Apple has sported following devices to get GameCenter in iOS 4.1:

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Touch 4G
  • iPod Touch 3G
  • iPod Touch 2G

Here is the original graphic from Apple.com, showing compatible devices:

Did I miss something? No. Did Apple miss something? Yes!! iPhone 3G. It looks like iPhone 3G will not be getting GameCenter love with iOS 4.1.

Next userland jailbreak for iOS 4.1 could possibly jailbreak iPod Touch 4G as well. The exploits, reportedly, in possession of comex might work for iPod Touch 4G jailbreak as the newly launched iTouch 4G will run iOS 4.1 which could be jailbreakable with a tool like JailbreakMe or a spirit-like tool. It’s not certain though as it’s a new hardware and finding exploits might be difficult. There’s a hope though but it’s something that time will tell. As for now, iOS 4.0.2 is not jailbreakable as it includes the fix to the security hole in Safari browser that was used by JailbreakMe.

Apple September 1 Event

Apple is holding a special event on September 1, 2010 and that event is likely to be related to the music. So, this might be iPod Touch 4th Generation release date. If rumors are to be believed, Apple iPod Touch 4 will be coming with a 5 MegaPixel camera and a front facing camera for FaceTime over iPod Touch 4. These specs were shown off in what is believed to be a leaked iTouch 4 back in July. Earlier, another leaked version from May this year hinted a 2 MegaPixels camera. Whatever it may be, we’re almost certain it will be featuring dual camera. We’ll come to know soon than we expected, it’s just a week away; September 1, 2010! Oh, and it’s not Tuesday this time :-) . Stay tuned for more.

iPod Touch 4 is likely to come with Retina Display. We already know that Apple iPod Touch 4G (4th generation) may feature dual camera with FaceTime support. Now there is news that iPod Touch 4G Retina Display might be reality. And it might be coming by end of August or at start of September as rumored earlier.

Latest news comes from John Gruber, who, believes that 4th generation iPod Touch could be here in few weeks and will feature some serious improvements and new features. Retina Display, FaceTime, Dual Camera and there could be more design and hardware improvements as in iPhone 4. Now that’s lot of new features for iPod Touch 4G.

If rumors are to be believed, iPod Touch 4 is going to be a killer product. Imagine the luxury of making FaceTime video calls from a music device without needing any setup. That’s going to be awesome!

It should be noted that these features are slightly different to what leaked iPod Touch 4G showed back in May. Leaked version showed hints for a 2 Mega Pixels camera and there was NO front facing camera at that time. Now there’s the rumor that iPod Touch 4th generation might come with 5 Mega Pixels camera coupled with front facing Camera just like iPhone 4.

Let’s see what the finished version of iPod Touch 4G might look like.
