Apple iOS 4.2.1 GM for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch was released few hours ago and guess what, you can already jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 GM with redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 2. But this would be nothing short of an adventure … you know, iOS 4.2.1 GM is just or developers and Cydia doesn’t quite work on on iOS 4.2. If you’re ready for ride, here is step by step guide to jailbreak 4.2.1 iOS GM with redsn0w 0.9.6 B2:

Devices Supported with Redsn0w:

  • iPhone 4, 3GS & 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G, 3G & 2G

Before you Begin:

Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 GM with Redsn0w 0.9.6 B2

Step 1: Load the downloaded iOS 4.2.1 GM IPSW into your device.

Step 2: Launch Redsn0w, click on browse button and select iOS 4.1 IPSW (NOT iOS 4.2.1).

Step 3:  Select the options that you want installed with the jailbreak. Make sure “Install Cydia” is selected.

Step 4: Now switch your device off and connect it to the computer.

Step 5: In the next step, you will be shown on-screen instructions to put your device in DFU mode. Follow the instructions.

Step 6: Now let redsn0w complete the process. Once done, your device will reboot and you’ll have jailbroken iOS 4.2.1.

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 4G 4.1 with Limera1n

GeoHot’s limera1n has been released even before the Chronic Dev’s greenpois0n that is expected to release tomorrow. You can download limera1n to jailbreak iPod Touch 4 4.1 iOS. Here is the step by step guide on how jailbreak iPod Touch 4G with limera1n:

Before you Begin:

Download

Note: This is Beta version of Limera1n, so continue at your own risk!

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 4 iOS 4.1 with Limera1n

Step 1: Run the downloaded Limera1n.exe

Step 2: Connect iPod Touch 4G with computer via USB (make sure your device is on)

Step 3: Switch to Limera1n and press “Make it ra1n” button

Step 4: Limera1n will show “entering recovery …” message

Step 5: Put iPod Touch 4G in DFU mode. Limera1n will show the instructions on how to do it. Once device is in DFU mode, Limera1n will show the message “in DFU mode … wait”.

Step 6: After that, Limera1n will start its process. Let it complete, you will see “done” on limera1n when it’s complete. Your iPod Touch 4G will show the ra1ndrop on screen:

And a message will show up in Windows saying that your device is now jailbroken.

Step 7: Your device will turn off, put it back on and you’ll have a jailbroken iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.1.

Step 8: You will now see Cydia and ra1ndrop icons on homescreen, click on ra1ndrop icon to launch limera1n app.

Step 9: In limera1n app, click on “Install Cydia” to get Cydia installed.

Step 10: If Cydia doesn’t work, reboot your device, should be fixed now.

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G iOS 4.1 with Sn0wbreeze 2.0

Sn0wbreeze 2.0 is out now and you can jailbreak iPod Touch 2G iOS 4.1 with it. Process to jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPod Touch is similar to the one we posted to jailbreak iOS 4 with sn0wbreeze 1.6.1. So you can follow the old guide that comes with slideshow or you can follow the guide posted below:

Before you Begin:

  • Download and install iTunes 10 for Windows
  • Backup iPod Touch data
  • Download iOS 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G
  • Download Sn0wbreeze 2
  • Sn0wbreeze requires .NET Framework 3.5 to function. Download it here if you don’t have it installed.
  • RECOMMENDED: Keep all files at a location other than desktop.

Step 1: Run Sn0wbreeze. You will see the welcome screen.

Step 2: Select either of Simple Mode or Expert Mode]. If you want customizations like backgrounds, custom boot logo or multi-tasking then you should go for Expert Mode.

Step 3: Browse the downloaded iOS 4.1 firmware file (.ipsw) that you want to jailbreak. Then click Next button.

Sn0wbreeze will now verify the iOS 4.1 IPSW.

Step 4: Click next and Sn0wbreeze will start the process to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G. If you selected “Expert Mode”, you will be presented with following options:

  • General
  • Unlocks
  • Installers
  • Custom Packages
  • Custom Boot Logos
  • Build IPSW

Each option lets you customize your IPSW. Select the ones you need and customize them to your requirements.

Step 5: After you are done with all customizations, select “Build IPSW” option and click Next button. Sn0wbreeze will now process iOS 4.1 jailbreak and you will see this:

It should take some time.

Step 6: Once the process is complete you will be notified and your custom firmware file will be placed on desktop.

Step 7: Load custom IPSW in iPod Touch

  • Connect your iPod Touch with computer
  • Run iTunes and select your device from left sidebar
  • In summary tab, you will see “Restore” button at bottom

  • Press and Hold Shift key and click on “Restore” button.
  • Now browse for custom IPSW that you cooked with sn0wbreeze
  • iTunes will load the firmware into iTunes.

Sn0wbreeze 2.0 is all set to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3GS & 3G. It will jailbreak iPod Touch 2G & 3G iOS 4.1 as well. After the unofficial PwnageTool jailbreak for iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 that was strictly for Mac users, seems like iPhone 3GS old bootrom users will be able to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on Windows. A recent conversation belonging to iH8Sn0w, the developer of Sn0wbreeze, confirms the point:

iH8sn0w: Its a full jb. It doesn’t use the 4.0 kernel as the Other bundle is that is floating around. and sandbox patches seem cool :)

DinoD7: lol I still need to be on a bootrom jailbreak to use it?

Although the last question didn’t get an answer, we’re very much certain that you need to have an already jailbroken device to jailbreak iOS 4.1 with sn0wbreeze. But at least users with older devices like iPhone 3GS old bootrom, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 3G & 2G will get to jailbreak iOS 4.1 using sn0wbreeze. Sn0wbreeze is also termed as PwnageTool for Windows as both the tools use the same bootrom exploit.

For those of you who want to jailbreak iPod Touch 4, iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 should wait for next jailbreak that would be based on SHAtter exploit and could possibly be termed as Greenpois0n. Regardless of what it is called, it will jailbreak the latest iPod Touch 4G and all current iDevices including iPhone 4 and could as well jailbreak iPad iOS 4.2.

GreenPois0n to Jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 & iPad iOS 4.2?

Remember the days when Greenpois0n jailbreak for iPad screenshots surfaced? Well, the tool was never released but P0sixninja’s Greenpois0n jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G & iPad iOS 4.2 lives on. Pod2G, the hacker who found SHAtter jailbreak exploit has hinted the use of tool built by p0sixninja by running Greenpois0n on iPhone 4 successfully. Pod2G said:

Hey, @p0sixninja ‘s epic greenpois0n works well on iPhone 4G ! (need to work on the framebuffer code tho ! )

He also posted the picture:

It should be noted that Greenpois0n jailbreak tool will be used as toolkit here alongside the latest bootrom exploit by Pod2G. This will save loads of time and will minimize the iOS 4.1 & iOS 4.2 jailbreak development to the half as stated by cdevwill:

greenpois0n is a toolkit that this is built upon

remember when we said greenpois0n would come to use later as a toolkit? using it to create this jailbreak is cutting our workload in half (or maybe more). that’s why pod mentioned it.

So, the next jailbreak may or may not be named Greenpois0n but the code will be used to build the tool.

There is still more work to be done though but with greenpois0n toolkit being put to use, we might see a release sooner than later.

SHAtter Jailbreak Exploit will Pwn iPhone 4, iPad & iPod Touch 4G for LIFE!

With SHAtter jailbreak exploit, Chronic Dev Team members Pod2G and p0sixninja seem to have found a bootrom exploit that will not only jailbreak iPhone 4, iPad iOS 4.2 and iPod Touch 4G iOS 4.1 but will pwn them for life. It’s because SHAtter is a hardware based exploit and will require Apple make fixes in hardware of upcoming devices in order to fill this hole.

SHAtter jailbreak exploit was found in S5L8930 aka the A4 chip that is being used in iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and iPad. This exploit allows unsigned code execution on iDevices. This exploit was initially tested to be successfully working on iPhone 4 while more testing later on confirmed that it could jailbreak iPod Touch 4th Gen and iPad iOS 4.2 as well.

Still got to wait till its released to public. Don’t upgrade to iOS 4.1 if you rely on jailbreak or unlock.

Pod2G Exploit to Jailbreak iPad iOS 4.2 & iPod Touch 4G iOS 4.1

We’ve had the great news of Pod2G jailbreak exploit. There’s still more to this, Pod2G exploit will jailbreak iPad iOS 4.2 when iOS 4.2 is finally released in November (expected) this year. The latest bootrom exploit is also said to work well to jailbreak iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.1. Earlier tests included iPhone 4 alone, now MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed it saying:

That latest exploit from @pod2g confirmed to work beyond iPhone4…also on at least iPad and yesterday’s iPod4G too :)

This certainly is a great news. So, you can expect iOS 4.1 & 4.2 jailbreak to be released after Apple rolls out iOS 4.2 for iPad this fall. Stay tuned for more.
