Windows Phone 7 Service Pack 1 Jailbreak Release Soon to Jailbreak WP7 SP1

Unofficial Device Manager to Jailbreak Windows Phone 7

Second jailbreak Windows Phone 7 is on its way. It is expected to arrive soon after first update of WP7 so it will likely jailbreak WP7 SP1 (jailbreak Windows Phone 7 Service Pack 1). Julien Schapman, the WP7 developer, is planning to release a Windows Phone 7 Device Manager that will come with a new way to jailbreak WP7 devices. Here is what he said:

“My unlock method is similar to that of ChevronWP7 in the way they both use a fake registration server, but my method is different and more reliable. For example it automatically detects when a WP7 is plugged in and will check if this is a registered developer phone, if not it will register it once and for all, so the device will never re-lock like with ChevronWP7.”

He didn’t provide any details on the exploit that his tool uses since he doesn’t want Microsoft to fix the hole. Microsoft is expected to release first updated to Windows Phone 7 in February. Julien’s tool may follow shortly.

GeoHot to Jailbreak WP7 (Windows Phone 7)?

Will GeoHot jailbreak WP7? There’s a hint! Impressed with how Microsoft dealt with WP7 jailbreak devs, GeoHot wrote on his official website:

perhaps a more appropriate way to deal with jailbreakers
I’m going out to buy a Windows 7 phone

It should be noted that GeoHot has been sued by Sony over PS3 jailbreak so its quite evident how he liked it when Microsoft invited Windows Phone 7 jailbreak developers to Redmond to discuss exploits in its WP7 platform. They were then presented with oversized t-shirts that had a message printed over it saying “I was the first to jailbreak Windows Phone 7, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”. Here’s the shirt:

Apple also choses to fight the jailbreak devs as it had asked Federal Government to stop jailbreaking. Let’s see if we get to see GeoHot to jailbreak Windows Phone 7 devices.
