GeoHot Limera1n Jailbreak iOS 4.3, Limesn0w to Unlock iPhone

GeoHot’s Limera1n jailbreak for iOS 4.3 could be a reality soon, according to a chatlog that has been circulating across internet. While it looks fake in our opinion, here is the chat log where GeoHot claims that he has exploit to jailbreak iOS 4.3 and unlock iPhone iOS 4.3 with ultrasn0w:

Will SHAtter or Limera1n Jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 4.2.5 iOS?

Soon after announcement of Verizon iPhone 4, many of you would be wondering whether limera1n exploit will jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 and will there be jailbreak for iOS 4.2.5. While there can be no certain point unless the VZW iPhone is released on February 10, however, there is every possibility that limera1n exploit may not work. Following points are crucial in this regard:

New Hardware:

Verizon iPhone comes with hardware changes. There’s new antenna, revised hardware buttons and there’s possibility that Apple may have patched the limera1n exploit, that was introduced by GeoHot in October 2010.

iOS 4.2.5:

To add support for HotSpot, Verizon iPhone runs on updated iOS 4.2.5. Currently there’s no untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak, redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 6 offers a workaround that required iOS 4.2 Beta 3 IPSW. Another iOS update could be harder to crack.

We’ll have to wait and see whether any of limera1n or SHAtter exploit works to jailbreak VZW iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.5.

P0sixninja says SHAtter is Leaked, MuscleNerd thinks Otherwise

There’re reports that Pod2G’s SHAtter is leaked. Someone from the jailbreak community might have leaked SHAtter exploit that was meant to jailbreak next generation iOS devices. In a heated exchange over Twitter, P0sixninja of Chronic Dev Team blamed none other than MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team to be responsible for leaking SHAtter. MuscleNerd denied the claims obviously. Here is the full conversation between both of leading jailbreak devs:

SHAtter was meant to be used in Greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1 but was preserved after the GeoHot’s limera1n spoiled the pois0n party.

GeoHot Releases Limera1n for Mac, Download NOW

Limera1n for Mac is now available for download. Here is the link to download limera1n for Mac:

Limera1n can jailbreak iPhone 4 4.1 as well as to jailbreak iPad 3.2.2.

Earlier, Limera1n was only available for Windows while Greenpois0n was released for Windows and Linux. There is still no greenpois0n for Mac as yet but PwnageTool will soon be released by iPhone Dev Team for Mac users to jailbreak iOS 4.1.

Limera1n on Mac with PwnageTool to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1

Limera1n is ported to PwnageTool! GeoHot hasn’t yet released limera1n for Mac and Chronic Dev Team’s Greenpois0n is available for Windows and Linux only. However, PwnageTool has been patched successfully to jailbreak iOS 4.1. It means that there’s finally some good news for Mac users who want to jailbreak 4.1 iOS. It was tweeted by Wizdaz, the person responsible for PwnageTool development:

Limesn0w.com belongs to GeoHot. GeoHot’s Limesn0w unlock for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G could be real like the Limera1n. Limesn0w.com whois record shows GeoHot as the owner of the domain. So we will see yet another surprise from GeoHot after his limera1n jailbreak stole the show with iPhone 4 4.1 jailbreak and also caused the SHAtter based greenpois0n to be delayed. Let’s see if GeoHot has the iPhone unlock at hand.

Furthermore, a leaked limwsn0w image shows that GeoHot could surprise us with sn0w option in limera1n.

Greenpois0n Delayed after Limera1n, SHAtter Exploit is Saved!

Chronic Dev Team have delayed Greenpois0n jailbreak that was expected to release today. There is no specific ETA for Greenpois0n release now as the Chronic Dev Team say they’ll release it soon as it’s done. Here is excerpt from their official blog:

Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.

We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.

In the mean time, you can jailbreak iPhone 4 4.1 with Limera1n. The latest tool from GeoHot also works to jailbreak iPad 3.2.2 and to jailbreak iPod Touch 4G 4.1.

Alternatively, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users can use redsn0w 0.9.6 to jailbreak iOS 4.1. iH8sn0w is also expected to chip in with sn0wbreeze jailbreak for iPhone 4.

Limera1n iPad Tutorial: How to Jailbreak iPad 3.2.2

Limera1n iPad jailbreak on 3.2.2 is easy and simple. Here is our step by step guide to jailbreak iPad 3.2.2 with Lime limera1n:

Before you Begin:

Note: This is Beta version of Limera1n, so continue at your own risk!

How to Jailbreak iPad iOS 3.2.2 with Limera1n

Step 1: Run Limera1n.exe

Step 2: Connect iPad to the computer (make sure iPad device is on)

Step 3: Press “Make it ra1n” button in Limera1n

Step 4: You will see the “entering recovery …” message on Limera1n as seen in screenshot below

Step 5: Now you will need to put iPad in DFU mode. To make it easier, Limera1n on-screen instructions guide you for putting iPad in the DFU mode. First, press and hold home + power buttons:

Then leave the power button and keep holding the home button as limera1n says

Once device is in DFU mode, Limera1n will show the message “in DFU mode … wait”.

Step 6: Now limera1n will start the iPad jailbreak process, let it complete. Once complete, limera1n.exe on computer will show “done”.

and your iPad will show the ra1ndrop:

And a message will show up in Windows saying that your device is now jailbroken.

Step 7: Your device will turn off, put it back on and you’ll have a jailbroken iPad on iOS 3.2.2.

Step 8: You will now see Cydia and ra1ndrop icons on homescreen, click on ra1ndrop icon to launch limera1n.

Step 9: In limera1n app, click on “Install Cydia” to get Cydia installed.

Step 10: If Cydia doesn’t work, reboot your device, should be fixed now.

If you face any errors and can’t get to fix those, you should wait for greenpois0n jailbreak from the Chronic Dev Team that is expected to release tomorrow.

Limera1n Known Issues / Bugs

GeoHot released limera1n before anyone expected it to so it still has some bugs. On top of all, it’s Windows only at the moment, limera1n for Mac and Linux is not available as yet. Other known bugs, according to GeoHot are as under:

3GS new bootrom is broken, fix pending
some people need to restart to get the Cydia icon to show up after installing
some people still don’t have windows
beta iOS versions aren’t supported
uninstall in limera1n app doesn’t work, you can just delete the blackra1n.app directory, i need regression testing

It’s working well to jailbreak iPhone 4 4.1, same is the case for iPod Touch 4G 4.1 jailbreak.

If limera1n is not working for you, wait for Chronic Dev Team’s greenpois0n. iH8sn0w has also hinted for release of sn0wbreeze jailbreak for iPhone 4. iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users can use redsn0w 0.9.6 to jailbreak iOS 4.1.
