Nokia has unveiled first MeeGo device. Nokia N9 is beautifully designed smartphone powered by MeeGo. It comes with 8 MegaPixels camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a front facing camera for video calls. Detailed specs of Nokia N9 are as under:

Firefox for Android & Nokia N900 is here. Mozilla has rolled out Alpha version of Fennec for Android & Nokia N900. Fennec is the codename for Firefox Mobile and alpha version is available for download and testing.

Fennec for Nokia N900 & Android brings support for Add-ons and is the first mobile browser to support add-ons. It comes with lot more features like Firefox Sync.

MeeGo for Nokia N900Finally, you can download MeeGo for Nokia N900 smartphone. Earlier we had reported that MeeGo for Nokia N900 was coming in March. There was plenty of buzz regarding availability of MeeGo for N900 device, today’s official releases clears all doubts. This is however developer release but you can still download MeeGo to Nokia N900. To download MeeGo, you will need the 15 digit IMEI number of your Nokia N900 device that can be found on the box. Go to Nokia hosted page for MeeGo download and provide the 15 digit IMEI number, you will get access to MeeGo OS immediately.

MeeGo for Nokia N900 Coming in March

MeeGoNokia and Intel may be releasing MeeGo for N900 sometime in March. MeeGo is OS for mobile devices built with combination of Maemo and Moblin, combining the best features of both Operating Systems. MeeGo supports both ARM as well as x86 processors which means it will be well suited to run on low power devices with minimal processing powers. Nokia N900 will be first device to be running on MeeGo, in addition to some devices based on Intel Atom processor. It will be interesting how MeeGo is received by users and developer communities. Currently Nokia N900 runs on Maemo and has been selling well. It will be interesting to see how MeeGo OS is received by user and developer communities.

Nokia has been made to fight for its share in mobile phones market after emergence of Apple iPhone, Google Nexus One and similar touch based smartphones. While Nokia’s touchscreen smartphones based on Symbian OS have not been attractive enough, the largest mobile phone manufacturer is now taking steps to excel in software for mobile devices. Release of new Symbian OS in a year or so is also an attempt to make better suited software for touchscreen, feature-rich smartphones. Let’s see how the open source MeeGo helps Nokia in this regard.
