Install Corona Untether 5.0.1 Cydia Tool for Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak

For those of you who are on tethered 5.0.1 jailbreak, Corona Untether 5.0.1 by Chronic Dev Team is a great tool in Cydia that will let you untether iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak. So, you will not need to download any other tools or connect your device to the computer. Remember you should already be on a tethered jailbreak to use this, here’s how to do it:

Install Corona Untether 5.0.1 (Cydia)

Step 1: Open Cydia

Step 2: Search for Corona. You’ll notice Corona 5.0.1 untether in search results.

Step 3: Click on search result and then install Corona.

Step 4: Reboot your device.

Step 5: Your device should now start without being connected to the computer.

That’s it. Enjoy!

Why Use Corona Untether 5.0.1:

  • No need to download iOS 5.0.1 IPSW
  • No need to connect your device to the computer
  • You can install Corona Untether 5.0.1 while on the go
  • It works over all tethered jailbroken devices (other than iPhone 4S & iPad 2).
  • It doesn’t matter if you used Redsn0w 0.9.9 or Sn0wbreeze, you can use Corona to untether it.

Pod2G Untethered iOS 5.0 Jailbreak Video, Exploit could also Untether 5.0.1

Untethered iOS 5.0 jailbreak has been demoed on video while the untethered jailbreak for 5.0.1 iOS is still in progress. Pod2G, a member of Chronic Dev Team who had earlier found the exploit to jailbreak iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.1, has posted a video showing iOS 5 untethered jailbreak. Jailbreak devs have been working hard to find exploits to untether iOS 5 jailbreak and looks like the results are just starting to show. Here is the update from Pod2G:

It’s not certain at the moment if the exploit found by pod2g will work on A5 devices, iPad 2 & iPhone 4S. It should also be noted that this video is based on iOS 5, not on 5.0.1. Here is the video:

Update: In a recent update, pod2g says that it may be possible to untether 5.0.1 iOS with this bug as well:

No it does not rely on it. Next step do the same on iOS 5.0.1. Should be quick.

A New Exploit for Untethered iOS 5.0.x Jailbreak Found by Greenpois0n Developer Team

Remember pod2g who discovered exploit to jailbreak iPod Touch 4 last year. Now, it appears, he’s found a bug for untethered iOS 5.0.x jailbreak. As he recently tweeted:

Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it.

Earlier, MuscleNerd also posted a screenshot of jailbroken iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0 few days ago. However, there’s no ETA for untethered iOS 5.0 jailbreak either from the iPhone Dev Team or the Chronic Dev Team. As a result, users have to go for tethered jailbreak for now, which is available via latest Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze.

In the meantime, untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.x is being actively worked upon by both dev teams and we can expect either Greenpois0n iOS 5.0.x or the Redsn0w update to untether 5.0.x iOS soon.

Untethered Jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 4.2.8 8E401 with Sn0wbreeze v2.6.2

iH8sn0w is likely to release sn0wbreeze 2.6.2 for untethered jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 4.2.8 8E401 soon. He has previously released sn0wbreeze 2.6.1 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.7 8E303 (untethered). Sn0wbreeze 2.6.2 will also bring untethered 4.3.3 jailbreak for all iOS devices on Windows. According to ih8sn0w:

Verizon 4.2.8 untether out of the way. Now just waiting on @i0n1c’s untether binaries for 4.3.3 and we got a new sn0wbreeze. :)

Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC15 is also expected to release once i0n1c ports his untether exploit to iOS 4.3.3. As for now, you can get tethered jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 using Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC14.

i0n1c’s Untethered Jailbreak 4.3.2 Possible, will Release Soon

i0n1c, the developer of untethered jailbreak for 4.3.1 iOS has just confirmed that it is possible to get untethered jailbreak 4.3.2 iOS as his untethered exploit was not patched by Apple, unlike initial reports. He also told that he was running untethered jailbreak iPad 4.3.2 iOS. What this means is that we’ll soon have untethered jailbreak released to the masses.

As for ETA, untethered 4.3.2 jailbreak is expected to release by Sunday April 17, 2011. It could be available in iOS 4.3.2 compatible redsn0w 0.9.6 RC13 and PwnageTool 4.3.x. Here is the series of updates as issued by i0nic:

Of course the public untether binaries will not work with iOS 4.3.2 – I have to generate new untether binaries with new dyld/kernel offsets

Redsn0w 0.9.6rc11 is now available for download. Updated version brings boot animations to iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak. Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC11 also removes the bunch of options that were part of previous release. Apart from that redsn0w 0.9.6 RC11 can jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 the same way the RC9 did. Redsn0w 4.3.1 Guide: Untethered Jailbreak iPad 4.3.1

iPhone Dev Team has just released Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC9 for untethered jailbreak iPad 4.3.1 and all other iDevices. Here is the step by step Redsn0w 4.3.1 guide that will help you untether iPad 4.3.1:

Untethered Jailbreak iPad 4.3.1 with Redsn0w 0.9.8 Beta 1

Before you Begin:

Step 1: Update iPad to iOS 4.3.1.

Step 2: Launch Redsn0w, click the browse button and select the iOS 4.3.1 IPSW that you downloaded.

Step 3: Select the options that you want, “Install Cydia” is a must, rest are optional.

Step 4: Switch off the iPad and connect it to the computer via USB. Now click “Next”.

Step 5: Now you’ll have to put your device in DFU mode, redsn0w will offer on-screen instructions, you’ll have to:

  • Hold “Power” button for 3 seconds.
  • Without releasing power button, hold the “Home” button for 10 seconds.
  • Release power button but keep holding Home button for up to 30 seconds.

Now wait for Redsn0w to complete it’s process. Once done, your device will reboot and you will have untethered iPad 4.3.1 jailbreak.

Untethered 4.3.1 Jailbreak Release Imminent

As the iPhone Dev Team are working to release untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak based on exploit found by Stefan Esser, MuscleNerd has hinted on a possible release soon. He described Stefan’s exploit as “solid”, that leaves them working on some minor issues before they release iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak.

well @i0n1c’s untether is solid! Just working out overall 4.3.x JB issues and Cydia :)

He also put to silence the rumors of a possible leak of Comex’s exploit at hands of Dev Team. Here’s what he said:

because the Dev Team conspiracy theories are getting out of hand: we were not privy to @comex’s iPad2 jailbreak details

(It may or may not have been leaked, but *if* it was it couldn’t have been us. We weren’t in that IRC channel.)

@esqew the problem is, how did Apple know they were fixing *the* iPad2 jailbreak hole (in BGR’s article). There are lots of holes.

Comex Untethered Jailbreak 4.3.1 Exploit Leaked

Call it a surprise or a leak, the untethered jailbreak 4.3.1 exploit that comex was in possession of has been patched by Apple in iOS 4.3.1. In a series of tweets, comex revealed that the exploit was there from iOS 4.0.2 up till iOS 4.3 but was “magically” patched by Apple in recently released iOS 4.3.1. Here’s what he said:

As noticed by @0naj, my kernel exploit was fixed in 4.3.1.

I try not to be paranoid, but it is really hard to explain this as anything but a leak.

The funny thing is that my "new" kernel exploit is actually the kernel exploit used by JailbreakMe 2.0. It was never properly fixed.

It stayed there from 4.0.2 through 4.3, but was magically found in time for 4.3.1.

With this goes the hope for JailbreakMe 3.0 kind of jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1. Comex had shown off iPad 2 iOS 4.3 jailbreak on video soon after iPad 2 went on sale. Now all eyes are on Stefan as he’s also in possession of untethered 4.3.1 jailbreak exploit and has posted iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak video recently.
