Greenpois0n Untethered Jailbreak 4.2.1 Release Soon, Video by Chronic Dev Team

P0sixninja of Chronic Dev Team sported untethered greenpois0n jailbreak 4.2.1 in a recently released video. Showing off greenpois0n untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak, video features a jailbroken iPhone 4 rebooting without being connected to a PC. Here is the video:

Chronic Dev Team’s greenpois0n uses GeoHot’s limera1n exploit while SHAtter exploit was held back for future jailbreaks. It’s still not clear if they have found a new exploit to make it untethered or if they’ll be using SHAtter. Latter sounds very unlikely. There’s no ETA, let’s see when we get to see uppdated greenpois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1.

P0sixninja of Chronic Dev Team has confirmed that Greenpois0n 4.2.1 jailbreak will be untethered on release. You will get next version of greenpois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 soon as it’s ready. There are no ETAs. This is what p0sixninja said:

A lot of people are saying another tethered jailbreak is pointless, I agree. Focusing on getting untethered before release

Currently, iPhone Dev Team’s redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 5 allows untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak but that requires you to have iOS 4.2 Beta 3 IPSW. Greenpois0n will not have any such requirements.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.7 B5 (Beta 5), Fix Bluetooth Issues

iPhone Dev Team has released redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 5 for Mac, an updated version that will fix redsn0w bluetooth issues. So, if you did jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 with redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 4 or earlier betas and have bluetooth problems, this version is just for you. All you got to do is to:

Download Redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 5: redsn0w_mac_0.9.7b5.zip

Do a fresh restore to iOS 4.2.1

Windows version is not released yet although Dev Team are working on it yet it’s too slow to be ready for release. According to Dev Team:

There is actually a Windows version of beta5, but it’s excruciatingly slow compared to the Mac version because it’s forced to use files on your hard drive instead of RAM while it’s processing the very large IPSW images.  It really is very very painfully slow, so we probably won’t be releasing it for testing purposes unless it can be sped up somehow.

Let’s see if we get to see a Windows version of this test-release of redsn0w.

Redsn0w to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (Untethered) with iOS 4.2.1 IPSW

Apple iOS 4.3 hasn’t even been released yet and the iPhone Dev Team are preparing to save their exploits for redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.3. Comex has been working to untether iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak but in the meantime iPhone Dev Team got their backup plan out. After releasing redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 4 they are gearing up for Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 for Windows. In a recent tweet, MuscleNerd said:

@L0ung3f1Y So if @comex were to develop 4.2.1 untether, we warn all to save their 4.2.1 IPSWs for 4.3 untether via Monte

The backup plan to untether 4.2.1 jailbreak requires you to have iOS 4.2.1 Beta 3 firmware IPSW. So, for untethered jailbreak iOS 4.3 using the Jailbreak Monte technique, you may require iOS 4.2.1 IPSW.

Go, download iOS 4.2.1 IPSW now.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.7 B4 for Mac

Dev Team’s Redsn0w 0.9.7 B4 for Mac is out. Latest redsn0w beta allows you to untether 4.2.1 like you did with redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 3 and earlier versions. Beta 4, however, lets you jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 without being needed to run a separate program for usbmux. That is the major change you will notice in this release.

There are still some issues though. Bluetooth is not working and you can’t run Skype either. That’s next on iPhone Dev Team’s list as is the Redsn0w 0.9.7 for Windows.

Redsn0w 0.9.7 for Windows to Release Soon

Great news for those who want Redsn0w 0.9.7 Windows version. The Dev Team have confirmed that redsn0w 0.9.7 for Windows will release soon to untether 4.2.1 jailbreak. Also, there will be an updated redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 4 for Mac that will release later today. It will fix some bugs that redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 3 for Mac had and will also function without usbmuxd.

Redsn0w 0.9.7 Windows

Today’s beta4 will eliminate separate usbmuxd process (so many more Mac users can use it). After that, expand to Windows.

There’s no ETA for Redsn0w 0.9.7 for Windows as yet but it may release soon once the Dev Team gets enough positive feedback on redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 4 for Mac.

10 Step Redsn0w 0.9.7 Tutorial: How to Jailbreak iPhone 4 4.2.1

The iPhone Dev Team have just released redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 1 Beta 3 for Mac. Here is redsn0w 0.9.7 tutorial to jailbreak iPhone 4 4.2.1. It’s for testers at the moment and is not recommended for general use, so proceed at your own risk.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 4 4.2.1 with Redsn0w 0.9.7

Before you Begin:

Note: You need to have iOs 4.2.1 Beta 3 IPSW

Step 1: Extract the download usbmuxd onto the computer

Step 2: Connect your iPhone with Mac

Step 3: Start Terminal in python-client directory

Step 4: Run following commands:

  • chmod +x tcprelay.py
  • ./tcprelay.py -t 22:2222

Step 5: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.7

Step 6: In redsn0w, browse for iOS 4.2.1 IPSW and click “Next”

Step 7: Select “Jailbreak Monte” from the redsn0w options

Step 8: Browse for iOS 4.2.1 Beta 3 IPSW and click “Next”

Step 9: Now put your device off and make sure it’s connected to the computer

Step 10: Next you need to put your device in DFU mode, redsn0w will show you on-screen instructions to help with this. You’ll need to:

  • Hold Power button for 3 seconds
  • Keep pressing Power button, also press Home button for 10 seconds
  • Release the power button but keep pressing Home button for 30 seconds.

Once in DFU mode, redsn0w will do rest of process. Your device will reboot after redsn0w would untether iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak. Enjoy!

Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak to Release by Christmas

Untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad 4.2.1 will be coming by Christmas. Comex said it already and MuscleNerd also showed off untethered jailbreak 4.2.1 iOS on video few days back. Now a tweet from MuscleNerd further confirms it, here’s it:

So it seems that you’ll have updated jailbreak tools to support untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak. There have already been news for updated Greenpois0n 4.2.1 jailbreak. Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 5 will almost certainly get an update as well. Let’s see what other tools get updates once Comex gets the stuff working.
