Google has introduced Google Voice for Gmail. So, you can now call anywhere in the World right from your Gamil account using Google Voice. And most amazing part is that calls to US and Canada are FREE in 2010. You can call international numbers at insanely low rates. Skype will be coming to more Nokia handsets and Symbian powered smartphones from other manufacturers including Sony Ericsson soon.
Skype just released beta version of their Symbian app that could be downloaded on supported Nokia handsets for free. Although Skype are bit late to join the party, they offer some really exciting features for their mobile users. Users will enjoy free Skype to Skype calls or they could call anywhere in the world using their Skype credit or subscription. This could prove a landmark in mobile communication and could boost Skype usage as users will benefit from market reach of Skype which will allow them to get connected to larger audience at affordable rates. Not to mention that users will be able to receive calls on their international Skype number, plus they will be connected to whole network via Instant Messaging.
Skype powered Instant Messaging would be much more powerful than SMS, MMS or other Instant Messaging services offered by different apps. Skype IM will enable users to be involved in group conversations and send/receive files right from their Nokia devices. Such features have been missing a bigger platform with larger user base like Skype. Now when it’s there, we can expect it to grow quickly.
Ironically though, Skype will be available on selected Nokia handsets to start with. Following is the list of cell phones which could support Skype app:
- Nokia E71
- Nokia E63
- Nokia E66
- Nokia N82
- Nokia E51

- Nokia N96
- Nokia N85
- Nokia 5320
- Nokia 6210 Navigator
- Nokia 6210 Classic
- Nokia N78
- Nokia N79
Surprisingly, Skype app will not be available for Samsung, Sony Ericsson and other mobile phone manufacturers’ handsets supporting Symbian OS. It’s still in beta version though but Nokia could benefit from it nevertheless.
