Watch Live IPL Cricket on YouTube
This March, YouTube will be debuting in live sports broadcasting with coverage of Indian Premier League. Earlier, Youtube has covered live concerts but this will be the first time it will be covering a sports event. This has been made possible after a deal between YouTube and IPL officials that will enable YouTube to test its live coverage capabilities to cricket fans all over the world and will add great exposure to Indian Premier League as it will be available for global viewership even where TV coverage for cricket events is scarce.
Indian Premier League and YouTube, both are confident to find sponsorships for this live webcast of IPL matches. This could be a potential landmark in Internet TV, although there are services like Willow.tv, with live coverage of cricket events, those are pretty costly. YouTube’s huge platform and IPL’s huge fan following around the globe could be a hit combination and it may open doors to coverage of more popular sports like Football, Rugby and Tennis etc.
IPL matches will be aired live on Youtube’s IPL Channel as stated on IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi’s Twitter page. This could be an interesting and equally challenging new prospect for YouTube as they’ll be streaming live cricket to millions of people around the globe. Another interesting prospect is of free internet TV, supported with ads and sponsorships rather than going with paid/subscription based streaming services that many websites are offering at the moment.
